Bachmannia

Can Matt Taibbi be a little overwrought sometimes? Maybe.

Does this article rule? Yes.

It could happen. Michele Bachmann has found the flaw in the American Death Star. She is a television camera's dream, a threat to do or say something insane at any time, the ultimate reality-show protagonist. She has brilliantly piloted a media system that is incapable of averting its eyes from a story, riding that attention to an easy conquest of an overeducated cultural elite from both parties that is far too full of itself to understand the price of its contemptuous laughter. All of those people out there aren't voting for Michele Bachmann. They're voting against us. And to them, it turns out, we suck enough to make anyone a contender.

America is doomed. Can we at least get some entertainment out of the whole 'fall of the empire' shtick? Bachmann 2012!

  1. Can Taibbi be overwrought? If anything he’s a paragon of understatement. Hyperbole is a word rendered meaningless by the likes of Bachmann. Bachmann traffics in crazy; reporting on it can seem over the top. Taibbi strikes a good balance.

  2. Personally, I’d prefer if he were understating Bachmann’s craziness. There’s a part of me that *needs* it to come out that she has some sort of lost city of gold underneath her home that she calls “heaven.” And that’s where all the foster kids went. And something about a perpetual motion machine powered by hate.
