Bachmannia

Can Matt Taibbi be a little overwrought sometimes? Maybe.

Does this article rule? Yes.

It could happen. Michele Bachmann has found the flaw in the American Death Star. She is a television camera's dream, a threat to do or say something insane at any time, the ultimate reality-show protagonist. She has brilliantly piloted a media system that is incapable of averting its eyes from a story, riding that attention to an easy conquest of an overeducated cultural elite from both parties that is far too full of itself to understand the price of its contemptuous laughter. All of those people out there aren't voting for Michele Bachmann. They're voting against us. And to them, it turns out, we suck enough to make anyone a contender.

America is doomed. Can we at least get some entertainment out of the whole 'fall of the empire' shtick? Bachmann 2012!

Good Going, Best Health Care System in the World

Life expectancy in most US counties falls behind world’s healthiest nations

While people in Japan, Canada, and other nations are enjoying significant gains in life expectancy every year, most counties within the United States are falling behind, according to a new study by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington.

IHME researchers, in collaboration with researchers at Imperial College London, found that between 2000 and 2007, more than 80% of counties fell in standing against the average of the 10 nations with the best life expectancies in the world, known as the international frontier.

“We are finally able to answer the question of how the US fares in comparison to its peers globally,” said Dr. Christopher Murray, IHME Director and one of the paper’s co-authors. “Despite the fact that the US spends more per capita than any other nation on health, eight out of every 10 counties are not keeping pace in terms of health outcomes. That’s a staggering statistic.”

Gingrich Is Special

I'm no Obamaniac (President Kucinich, duh), but sheesh, Newt:

“He is a national secular European socialist. He believes in the government,” said former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, whose campaign imploded last week when his top advisers resigned. In one of the first speeches since the shakeup, he entered and exited to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.”

I cannot wait until "Obama is literally a Nazi" is the phrase that the GOPers are fighting each other over saying the loudest.

Also, why run for government office if you don't believe in government?

A Certifiable Good Thing™ from TPM

Brian Beutler writes a load of wonderful things that Politifact et al. will totally ignore.

Three Most Common Mistakes Made By So-Called Fact Checkers When Assessing GOP’s Medicare Plan
MISTAKE #1: The GOP Plan Doesn't End Medicare
MISTAKE #2: The GOP Budget Does Not Cut Benefits For Current Seniors
MISTAKE #3: The GOP Plan Preserves Medicare For Current Seniors

How unfortunate. The GOP really do want to wreck what Medicare is, even if the name would remain the same. The fourth estate is blowing the chance to cover it correctly.

Things I Learned at Today’s Boston Tea Party Express Rally

Gadsden Flag on the Common

I went to the Tea Party Express' rally on the Boston Common today. I took some pictures, recorded some videos, and learned a lot. I wrote down the things that I learned so that you, reader, might learn them, too.

Lawyers are, universally, people who could not get into medical school. Related to this: lawyers in government reduce the 'liberty' and 'freedom' quotients of that government's people dramatically. This is undesirable.

Lipton black tea in single-cup, individually-wrapped bags adorn the jewelry of the revolutionary class.

You can't be a racist if you say that you're not a racist.
